Specialist A-Level, IB & AP Chemistry Tuition
Private one-to-one tuition with Matt for A-Level, IB and AP Chemistry students who want expert support with difficult concepts, examination performance, advanced problem solving or chemistry competitions.
Tailored chemistry coaching for ambitious students
Hello! I'm Matt, a specialist Chemistry tutor with over 7,500 hours of experience helping students around the world achieve exceptional results at post-16 level.
I specialise in working with high-performing students, many of whom go on to study at leading Russell Group and Ivy League universities.
To maintain the highest levels of individual support, I now work with only a small number of students each academic year through highly tailored one-to-one and small-group tuition.
Sessions are always designed around individual students and their goals. For some, this means aiming for top examination marks for university entry, with a strong focus on exam technique and past-paper practice. For others, it may mean building confidence ahead of further study, developing deeper chemical understanding, or preparing for elite competitions and admissions processes such as the Chemistry Olympiad and Oxford or Cambridge interviews.
Who I work with
AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge pathways.
SL and HL support, including demanding problem-solving.
Conceptual understanding, FRQs and exam preparation.
Olympiad, C3L6 and university-admissions preparation.
I am usually the best fit for motivated students who are prepared to think carefully, ask questions and work independently between sessions.
What students and parents say
“Matt is so good. He's helped me to understand things I didn't realise I needed work on, and it's very clear he is extremely talented.”
“I worked with Matt for two years. In that time he helped me get an A in my A-Level Chemistry. He was a great teacher and by some margin the best tutor I've ever had.”
“We just wanted to offer our sincere thanks for all your hard work with our son. You have fantastic empathy with students and seem to be able to enthuse and encourage throughout the tutoring process. I would have no hesitation in recommending you to anyone who is seeking a high calibre science tutor.”
“Matt has enormous enthusiasm for the sciences which comes across instantly and was infectious. He explains topics and links them together so they make sense. He definitely gave our daughter confidence and turned a subject she hated into one she actually enjoyed learning, and her results both in class tests and mocks have improved massively.”
“Matt has been tutoring my daughter in A-Level Chemistry. He has been amazing in explaining concepts to her and building her confidence. It has made a massive difference. She was working at a B/C grade and she is now working at an A grade. I would definitely recommend him.”
“Matt is the friendliest and most enthusiastic teacher I have ever met in my life! He always greets you during every lesson with a bright smile and the tutoring time with him seems to fly past because he has the ability to make the subject he is teaching interesting. Although I propose the most confusing questions, Matt can still tackle them easily. I really couldn't recommend this tutor enough.”
“Matt is a great tutor. My son really enjoys his sessions. Matt explains everything very well and makes things clear. He is friendly and patient. Matt is really knowledgeable and passionate about science and I think this is very important as it makes his students fall in love with this subject too, and if you love something, you do your best in it — this is a key to success. As a Mum, I know how difficult it is to find the right tutor for your child and I am very happy that we have found and chosen Matt. Thank you very much, Matt, for all your help!”
“EXCELLENT TUTOR! Wasn't feeling very confident in Chemistry until I started tuition with Matt. Would highly, highly recommend.”
“For anyone who is looking to have tutoring sessions with Matt, or thinking of having lessons in the near future, I would suggest that you book him as soon as possible, as he only takes a limited number of students each academic year. He is professional, highly persistent, intelligent and delivers engaging lessons. He is motivating, has an in-depth knowledge of the subjects, and goes the extra mile in the preparation and delivery of each lesson.”

Experience with ambitious chemistry students
As an online A-Level Chemistry tutor I have considerable experience working with some of the brightest and highest-performing chemistry students at pre-university level. This has included tutoring students who went on to achieve Gold in the UK Chemistry Olympiad, supporting C3L6 students at the highest levels of the competition, including success at Roentgenium level, and coaching students for Oxford and Cambridge chemistry-related interviews.
Former students of mine have also gone on to achieve outstanding results at some of the world’s most prestigious universities. These outcomes belong to the students themselves, but they reflect the level of chemistry I am comfortable working with and the range of learners I support.
